Extract: This paper attempts to define and discuss Farming Systems Research (FSR) in a somewhat narrow sense as to how the MSU Task Force may be able to progress in a meaningful and practical manner. In the arena of agriculture and food production, in which Title XII is involved, there are basic requirements for professionals from four disciplines; (1) biology (2) physical technology, (3) economics and (4) sociology. The FSR approach is focused towards the farm family and the family farmer.
