Lost in Vietnam
註釋Saigon 1966 is an exciting place especially for those seeking wine, women and well you know sex. Stationed in Cu Chi about thirty miles from Saigon my sidekick Joe and I preferred to hang out with Ba and her daughter in Ben Luc, down in the Mekong Delta. Ba had a pho stand. We could sit there for hours enjoying her soup(pho). One day Joe and I wandered downstream about a mile and found a boat tied to a tree. The boat was piled high with pineapples that had just been picked. As we lingered, a lovely Vietnamese girl came up from the hold with a plate of sliced pineapple spears. The girl spoke some French and even some English. I was intrigued and pleased to get a free lesson in Vietnamese. We realized we had seen her before at the pharmacy with an old man. The old man came up from below and told the girl they had to leave but she should have her new friend come along. Joe reminded me we had to be back at at the base in Cu Chi with a story for the newspaper by Friday. I told Joe I was going for a ride on the boat and away we went. Well the girl, Muy Ba, and her dad, General Giap were from Hanoi. After two days which included a stop in Singapore to deliver the pineapples, I realized I had been kidnapped and was in love!
