A school of nursing must embody compassion and ease, protection and inspiration. This book highlights the architectural interpretation of these properties in the BNIM- and Lake/Flato-designed School of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. The space is a state-of-the-art center for learning, research, student service and work. The new building is another step in the direction of the healthy, environmentally-responsible actions that the University had begun with changes to its facilities operations processes in order to reduce the use of energy, polluting chemicals, cleaning agents, potable water and other resources. The facility also represents the University's leadership in other responsible actions such as adaptable workplace design, salvage and reuse of materials and integrating photovoltaic panels to generate electrical energy.
