Kate Martinson Papers
註釋The papers consist chiefly of a photocopy of Martinson's diary dating from 1872 to 1893 and again from 1897 to 1917. On each October 2nd, she would record the previous year's activities including a recitation of marriages, births, and deaths in her family. She described the joys and hardships of life in rural Iowa, including an account of the life and death of an infant child. In 1889 she discovered that her husband, George Emerson, who worked for long periods away from home, had another wife and children. Although pregnant, she sent him away and eventually divorced him.
