ARNEWS
註釋The Acid Rain National Early Warning System (ARNEWS) has been in place since 1984 to detect early signs of damage to Canadian forests and to monitor changes in forest vegetation and soils. ARNEWS consists of over 100 permanent sample plots located in all provinces. These plots are established and assessed by the Forest Insect & Disease Survey (FIDS) of the Canadian Forest Service. The role of FIDS is to identify the types and degree of damage to forests, whether caused by natural factors such as insects, diseases, and weather, or anthropogenic factors such as management practices and air pollution. The health of conifer and hardwood species is described. This document discusses methods used, terrestrial ecozones, forest health & its evaluation, forest health in Canada's ecozones (Atlantic maritime, mixedwood plains, boreal shield or plains, taiga plains, montane or boreal cordillera, and Pacific maritime) and it provides conclusions.
