Learning of a foreign language enables the learners to get to know foreign cultures. When we are acquainted with cultural diversity, which prevails in our society, we can abolish prejudices, and this is one of the main aims of intercultural education. In the time of mass magrations, intercultural competence has become the key ability of the 21st century. Development of the intercultural competence is nowadays very important for teachers and students. The master thesis focuses on the progress of intercultural ability in German as a foreign language. For this reason, the empirical part of the thesis includes an analysis of student's books for teaching adults and youth the German language. The results of the analysis show that the analysed student's books contain in average 5 percent of exercises for developing intercultural competence.
