Folded Light
註釋"Work created whilst Artist in Residence at Camden Arts Centre in 1995. 'folded light - family' is one of many pieces but this one is almost the bookwork that contains the new language or body of material ideas that I developed and went onto use within my practice. I spent my time in residence developing my relationship to the book, really focusing, asking questions of myself and the book. I was allocated a spectacular still room to work in which had a parquet floor and several large high windows. During the day the light moved through and around the room creating shadows and pools of light which became the focus of my time there. As part of the deal the artist gets access to the very knowing and knowledgeable Camden Arts Centre audience. A real strength of the opportunity is to be able to talk with them and discuss ideas and the work made in the space. The work developed at Camden forms an important stage in my development where I was asking questions of the book such as what makes a book a book? What can you take away from a book for it still to be one? What elements are needed to refer or reference the book? Through reductive thinking I started stripping away elements and begun to consider form as a possible content - the materials, the thickness of paper, folding, thread and marks that allude to a text. folded light - family is an important marker in my practice - the thinking I engaged in to make this piece enabled me to work with Commissions East and to develop a practice that encompassed large scale public art pieces." -- information provided by the artist.
