註釋
This report documents the complexity of maritime-type subsistence for San Diego County inhabitants from circa 6,600 B.P. to 1,300 B.P. at the Ballast Point prehistoric site, located on the southeastern portion of Point Loma. It represents the only major site investigated on Point Loma or adjacent to San Diego Bay and it contains over 5,000 years of archaeological data with which to address questions concerning prehistoric chronology, diet, subsistence change through time, seasonal or permanent site use, and use of maritime resources. The environmental reconstruction combined with found artifacts identified a maritime economy at CA-SDI-48. This evidence is contrary to the belief that the La Jolla Complex/Encinitas Native Tradition was primarily exploiting plant foods and shellfish. The evidence indicates that this maritime economy fished both the rocky coast kelp areas, soft substrate sloughs, and sandy tidal areas for numerous fish species.
