Edgar A. Brown Papers
註釋Published items include 3 printed leaflets, 1926, 1938 and 1954, from Brown's unsuccessful bids for the U.S. Senate, including oversize political flyer, "Vote for Edgar A. Brown, Democratic Nominee for U.S. Senate" [1954] (4 pages), which reports biographical information on Brown and his political career, along with portraits of all South Carolina Democrats running for national and state office: "South Carolinians: Vote for the Nominees of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY!" Persons represented include George Bell Timmerman (1912-1994), Ernest F. Hollings, William Jennings Bryan Dorn, and L. Mendel Rivers. [This election followed the death of Senator Burnet Maybank. The Democratic Executive Committee chose Brown to run as the Democratic candidate. However, Strom Thurmond challenged Brown in a write-in campaign and won the election.]
