註釋Abstract: The principles of child nutrition are presented ina clinical handbook designed for pediatricians and professionals in child health care. Nutrient requirements, as they apply to the special needs of infants, children and adolescents, are evaluated with methods for assessing nutritional status. The child's first foods include breast milk and infant formulas; feeding problems may begin early but the parent can get help from community nutrition services. Clinical applications of nutrition in pediatrics are examined. Medical disorders of special relevance in children include malnutrition, diarrhea, malabsorption, chronic renal disease, congenital metabolic defects, diabetes, nutrient deficiencies, obesity, and hypersensitivity to foods. Treatment of young patients with parenteral feeding is described. Other topics include healthfoods, megavitamin therapy, nutrition in athletics, immunological mechanisms and food additives.
