A School Administrator's Guide to Early Childhood Programs
註釋This guide presents information elementary school administrators need to develop and maintain good early childhood education programs for 4- and 5-year-olds. It also presents the curriculum principles that are relevant to both early childhood programs and the elementary grades. The guide will help principals and administrators recognize good early childhood education, explain the rationale for early education to parents and others, provide appropriate administrative support and evaluation for early childhood programs, and integrate new ideas about early childhood education into their present views. Three key questions are considered: (1) What constitutes a good early childhood program? (2) What is the elementary school principal's role in relation to early childhood education programs? (3) What are the critical choices in implementing a good early childhood program? Sections focus on the rationale for good early childhood education, the hallmarks of quality in early childhood education, and the way early childhood education fits into a public school setting. Appendices provide information on the High/Scope Perry Preschool Study, a list of national information sources on early childhood programs, and a list of related High/Scope publications and services. Fifty-two references are included. (RH)
