註釋The sixth volume of the Devisement du Monde traces Marco Polo's return to the West, along the principal stages in this long journey. The traveler reveals curiosities from Indonesia to Sumatra, Ceylon, and India's eastern and western coasts. While attracted by spices and precious stones, the merchant is also attentive to strange behaviors and peoples. His curiosity makes him a kind of ethnologist and anthropologist before their time. He transmits oral traditions from the east African coast, while also recounting legends that lend the work a certain poetic atmosphere. This volume, like its predecessors, combines the real and the imaginary, and throughout this tale the marvels of Asia continue to intrigue and fascinate. French text.
