John Knox, a Biography
註釋John Knox was born around the year 1514, close to Haddington, Scotland. Greatly influenced by George Wishart, who was burned at the stake for heterodoxy in 1546, Knox became the spokesman for the Reformation in Scotland. This is a good book that covers the major events of Knox's life without being too long and laborious. It would be difficult to write a book about John Knox without bringing in the life of Mary Stuart, the only legitimate child of King James V. of Scotland, who died when she was a mere infant. This book tells of her marriage to Francis, Dauphin of France, and of her short time as Queen before his death of a brain tumor. Her return to be Queen of Scotland by what she believed was a "divine right," was clouded by heavy mists, both literally and figuratively. One will read of the political intrigue involving Mary, a Roman Catholic, her Protestant nobles, and of course her inevitable collision with John Knox.
