The Trade-offs in Rail-truck Intermodal Transportation of Hazardous Materials : an Illustrative Case Study
註釋This paper attempts to develop an understanding of the risk, cost, & time trade-offs that underlie decisions pertaining to dangerous goods shipments via a rail-truck intermodal transportation system. It presents a realistic case study that focusses on transportation of both dangerous goods and regular freight from Quebec to British Columbia. In the study, 1,036 container shipments are to be planned among 100 origin-destination pairs, where each shipment needs to be made within a stipulated delivery time. An intelligent enumeration algorithm developed to solve the problem is presented along with discussion of the simulation results.
