註釋In this book an attempt has been made to give in general outline the story of our race, commencing with the discovery and settlement in New Zealand by the Maoris, their customs and mode of life till the coming of the white men, and then passing on to incidents in the story of Britain from the time of the early Britons until the present century. An attempt has also been made where necessary, to bridge gaps of time by explanatory links between lessons, so that they may appear as successive acts in one long drama.
