註釋Anti-papist tract about demonic possession. In 1536 an otherwise healthy resident of Frankfurt an der Oder, Gertrand Fischer, became "weak in the head", a condition that could have meant melancholy or madness to the physicians of the day, but which is described here as possession by the Devil. Frau Fischer began chewing and swallowing coins, needles, and other indigestibles. After her caregivers attempted exorcism, during which but the visiting priest's adjurations were repeatedly interrupted by Fischer's antics and he was eventually driven away, Fischer was eventually brought before the Lutheran preacher Andreas Ebert, who claims to have successfully commanded the Devil to leave Fischer's body.
