註釋This booklet explores the question of what the role and task of schools should be in facing the changes underway in educational systems throughout Europe. The school's tasks always been that of teaching, educating and preparing children for life in society. Ethical and moral standards has been seen as part of that task. This area is also very complicated and prone to conflict, yet it is also seen as the very basis of human survival. This booklet explores some of the challenges facing the new civic education underway. The book is divided into three parts: (1) "The Background and Issues Involved"; (2) "The School as a Training Ground for the Citizen"; and (3) "The Legal Dimension, a Pillar of Civic Education." (EH)
