Depression Factors of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and Processes of Verbal Learning and Memory
註釋This study examined relationships between depression factors as extracted from the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS; Hamilton, 1960) and stages and strategies of verbal learning and memory as measured by the California Verbal Learning Test-Second Edition (CVLT-II; Delis, Kaplan, Kramer, & Ober, 2001) in subjects with depression. A previous study by Gomez et al. (2013) conducted a factor analysis of the 17-item HDRS and found five factors, two of which were correlated with verbal memory (Gomez et al., 2013). It was hypothesized that these two particular factors, the Depression and Anxiety Factors, would be associated with stages and strategies of learning and memory from the CVLT-II given their associations with delayed free recall in the Gomez et al. (2013) study. Surprisingly, no significant correlations were identified between either the Depression and Anxiety Factors and stages of memory or strategies of learning in the full sample and in those with psychotic or non-psychotic features. Lastly, differences between depressed subjects who performed relatively better and poorer on the CVLT-II overall were further investigated. There was some trace of significant correlations in the better performing group; however, these findings were not significant at p
