Growing up in Hollywood with the punk scene in full swing, Richardson began documenting his environment. The images of his friends and his life from this peiod show a generation lost to broken homes, sex and beer. After completing his education, he made his way to New York where he continued exploring documentary photography, recording the brutality of sexual abandon and the harsh, lonely reality of the early 90's drug culture in Manhattan's Lower East Side. It was during this period Richardson stumbled into a career as a fashion photographer. Although his personal work stands apar from his commercial work, Richardson has been able to bridge the gap between the two successfully. Bringing elements from one into another has given his commercial work an undeniable signature. Richardson has, more importantly, continued to explore his fascination with the human condition. Nudes, nudists and beauty queens in a series of un-manufactured images, by turns startling, sexy, intimate, barely present, flesh and blood moments.
