Enormously popular and influential alphabetical guide to a correct and "elegant" use of pure Italian, with numerous illustrations of appropriate examples, was first published by Paolo Manuzio in 1556, and considerably augmented throughout its long publishing history. Although traditionally attributed to Aldo Manuzio, the younger, it seems more likely that it is largely the work of his father Paolo, perhaps with some help from his precocious son.
