W 或 "大鼻" 之眼
註釋After a long work on the Jewish community, Patrick ZACHMANN became interested in the diaspora and Chinese secret societies. Determined to penetrate this hermetic world, he sets out in search of a guide, a ferryman capable of initiating him into the rituals and the spirit of this community. He will find him in the person of a mysterious character, whom he names "W", owner of a Chinese products shop in Paris and known in Chinese circles as a sort of godfather. It is the beginning of an association which will last seven years and during which the photographer will never really succeed in knowing either the identity or the exact role of the sinuous W. Together, they will accomplish a journey which will lead them to Taiwan, Hong-Kong, China. from the South in the village of W's father-in-law, dominated by the local Teo Chew -, then to Macao and Bangkok. With W's recommendations, the photographer will then continue to New York, San Francisco and Singapore. Trafficking, mafia, drugs, smuggling, secret societies, prostitution line the path of the photographer, who gradually finds himself caught in a tangle of relations involving the Teo Chew ethnic group and the secret society Sun Yee On.
