Ancient Sediments of Earth and Mars
註釋The work described here, on the earliest known record of marine sedimentation on Earth, has been used to explore (i) the presence and nature of the life forms near 3.9 billion years ago, (ii) direct evidence for liquid water oceans in the earliest geological history of the Earth prior to 3.8 billion years ago, (iii) the contribution of matter and energy to the surface environment by increased meteoritic flux in the early Archean, and (iv) to develop proposals for applied studies of early life environments on Earth to be used in future sample return missions from the ancient surface of Mars, as well as to propose means of revealing information about crustal formation on Earth before 4 billion years ago.
