This paper discusses problems that need to be addressed while building a knowledge management - KM portal. A few key issues are how to create taxonomies, what type of documents to keep in the KM portal and how to create knowledge capture mechanisms in the organisation. This paper explains these aspects on KM project implementation with examples. When a large number of knowledge objects are available with different subjects and themes, it becomes important to specify the taxonomy. The taxonomy helps in locating the document in the archives and in searching.
