註釋Captain William Toogood was born in Somerset, England ca. 1748. He may originally have come to America as a British soldier, but, during the Revolution, he served in the American army. He married a widow, Mary Oakes Bras, sometime after 1770. She had five children from her previous marriage. She and William Toogood had one child, William Oakes Toogood, born in 1780 in Westfield, Mass. The family lived in Chester, Mass. Captian Toogood died in January 1818 at age 70.
