註釋Presents a short history of the Jews in Sławatycze, a small town in eastern Poland where, in the interwar period, there were ca. 1,000 Jews, nearly half of the population. Pp. 26-41 deal with the Holocaust period, during which some of the Jews were murdered on the spot and some were taken to the Międzyrzec Podlaski ghetto and then deported to Treblinka. The second part of the book describes Grynberg's own experiences. Born in Sławatycze in 1909, he left for the Soviet Union after the Soviet occupation in 1939. He served in the Red Army, and returned to Poland after the war. He died in 2000.
