Long Term Economic and Social Impacts of Agricultural Growth in Selected Brazilian Municipalities
註釋The research aimed at investigating selected long term impacts of agricultural income growth on non-farm income, population growth, tax revenues and life conditions (measured by an indicator derived from the United Nations HDI) in a group of municipalities between 1975 and 1996. Its main conclusions are: a) total and agricultural income growth were very high in most of the selected areas in the period analyzed; b) as expected, agricultural and population growth were especially strong in the newly settled areas; c) a proxy for productivity change suggested very high labor productivity growth rates in most cases; d) farm and non farm income are closely associated over time; e) agricultural income is associated with population growth and increases in living conditions over time; f) we postulated that farm income generates (or "causes") non farm income; and g) both farm and non farm income are associated with tax revenues over time.
