Sorption and Related Studies on Malaysian Timber II - Sorption of Water at 30 C on the Sapwood of Kempas (Koompassia Malaccensis)
註釋A study was carried out on the sorption of water vapour on the sapwood of Kempas at 30 C. The isotherm was type IV with a hysteresis loop extending to very low relative pressures, whereas the nitrogen isotherm at 77 K was reversible with respect to desorption and was type II in the B.E.T. classification. Scanning behaviour also indicated that capillary condensation in the pores was not responsible for hysteresis. From the B.E.T. plots the specific surface area and the net heat of adsorption were calculated. The water specific surface area was observed to be very much larger than that nitrogen. Density measuruements suggested that water was only able to penetrate the larger pores at an absolute pressure of 1 atm. However, these pores only constitute a small fraction of the total surface available for sorption of water vapour. [Authors' abstract].
