The Effects of Organic and Inorganic Mulches on Black Spruce Seedlings in Seed Orchards, (first Year Results)
註釋This report presents results of trials conducted to test the effect of various mulches on survival and growth of newly planted black spruce seedlings, to determine the effect of various mulches on soil moisture and temperature, and to compare material and application costs of the mulches. The sites chosen were a sandy hilltop, a loamy midslope, and a lower-slope clay, all previously abandoned old-field sites. The treatments applied included no mulch, herbicide, polyethylene mats, and raw poplar chips. The report describes the experimental design, data collection and analysis methods, and results in terms of seedling survival, height and diameter growth, effect of mulches on weed growth, costs, application requirements, and production rates.
