註釋
General description of the collection: The Heinz L. Werle papers consists of his memoirs, "My Memories of World War II," as dictated to his wife, Florine Watson Werle, and published by his step-son, Paul Watson Fleming on 20 October 2002. In his memoirs, Werle describes the tedium of life in the military in 1941, his confusion during the 1941 Tennessee and Louisiana Maneuvers, and his duties and diversions while stationed in Iceland. He later describes his special training in preparation for the Allied landings at Normandy, and his duties with the I & R Platoon during Patton's rapid advances through France and Germany. Werle describes the capture, questioning and treatment of German POWs.
