When Tristan Apthorp II finds the body of Neighbor Hope Steele in his swimming pool, he's charged with her murder. Even his new wife, Hillary, fears he's guilty because he has dallied with Hope before in that pool and elsewhere.

Hillary stifles her fears to help him expose the true murderer whom Hope had sexually humiliated. The climax comes in the pool when Tris outmaneuvers the murderer who tries to make Hillary a bargaining chip in a bid to win his own freedom.
