The Old Women of Magione
註釋The poems of The Old Women of Magione draw on two visits Ciaran O'Driscoll made to Italy. One long poem describes a visit to Assisi and is a meditation on the poet's own involvement with the Franciscans and his decision to leave the religious life. Another series of poems shows Italy as something that transforms the poet's usual preoccupations, culminating with the metamorphosis of the old women of an Umbrian town into angels. This book will interest those who are in any way engaged with Italy, with religious life, or with the Franciscan order in particular. Ciaran O'Driscoll, born in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1943, is a former Franciscan who now lives and teaches in Limerick, Ireland. The Old Women of Magione is his fourth collection.
