註釋Analyzes a defense of the Jews, attributed to Andreas Osiander, against the blood libel, published in connection with the Pösing (Pezinok, Slovakia) ritual murder case of 1529, and its refutation by Johannes Eck in a tract which not only elaborated on the blood libel but also attacked Jewish religion and customs in general and accused the Jews of blasphemy, desecration of the Host, usury, and other iniquities. Eck demanded their isolation under demeaning conditions, and the burning of the Talmud. Compares Eck's position with Luther's and with 15th-century Spanish policy, and discusses the historical continuity between early modern and modern antisemitism.
