Aussie-osities
註釋"The search for a national identity began long before the Federation of Australian states in 1901. The desire to break the ties with 'Mother' England led to the appearance of tangible expressions of patriotism in popular art and architecture. These were manifested in Australian symbols, frequently incorporating the local fauna and flora. Traditional European motifs were replaced so that, instead of gargoyles and acanthus leaves, kanaroo finials appeared on domestic housing, wattle, waratah and even a shearer in bas relief on public buildings; gum leaf bookmarks, kookaburra chairs, rosella soup labels...There was an innocence about this search for identity but also a great deal of humour and charm which is clearly illustrated in this collection of Aussie-Osities" -- from front cover.
