註釋
A young adult fantasy novel set on the island of Taprobane. Nimi, the protagonist of the novel learns of an old legend that states that when the current Buddha Cycle ends (for in Buddhism everything is cyclic) the Buddha's relics will disappear from the world of man, gather in the world of the nagas (mythical beasts who are half human, half snake) and travel from there to the Tree of Enlightenment where they will self destruct, thus ending this Buddha cycle and clearing the way for the next Buddha, Maitreya. She soon also discovers that it is her destiny to take the relics on their journey. She is helped along her journey by the naga prince, Padma and her best friend, Lalita. Their main guide on the journey is Visaka, a man who had undergone castration in order to become a Nirvani with magical powers. They are pursued on their journey by King Gamini, king of Taprobane, his evil advisor Alambana and the colonel and Mrs. Suraweera, all of whom wish to secure the relics for themselves and use their power for various purposes. The lessons Nimi learns along her journey are the Buddhist ones of compassion, the power of pacifism and the clarity that comes from truly understanding impermanence. The Guardian of the Relics ends with Nimi entering the world of the Nagas through a magic portal. The journey will continue in the second and third books of the trilogy.
