Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) Characterization of Material Loss in Multi-layer Structures
註釋This paper reviews the use of the pulsed eddy current technique for inspecting lap splices in aircraft. It begins with background on the principles behind the technique, then describes procedures in & results from experiments conducted on two types of test specimens, both two-layer systems composed of aluminum alloy. One type was used to develop the pulsed eddy current technique and was machined with material losses to simulate corrosion. The other was a riveted lap splice, placed in a corrosion chamber to initiate crevice corrosion, that was used to validate the results obtained with the other specimen. The results indicate the ability of the technique to quantify material loss and determine defect location in conductive multi-layer structures.
