註釋This report is a compilation of papers in five sections that provide a basis for understanding how climate change will physically affect the Mackenzie Valley. The first section reviews the physical setting of the Valley with five papers covering the glacial history of the Mackenzie region, the Valley climate, permafrost distribution & ground ice, surficial geology, subsurface materials, thaw sensitivity of sediments, and peatlands. The second section reviews indicators of past climate, with papers on post-glacial vegetation & climate, tree ring evidence of recent climatic changes in the Mackenzie Basin, and evidence from dune fields on past environmental change. The third section contains six papers characterizing permafrost in the Valley, ground temperatures, and thaw depth. The fourth section describes the two most active processes currently changing the landscape: river flow and landslides, along with the possible impact of climate change on these processes. The final section presents two papers on effects of climate change on permafrost. Includes author index.
