註釋This book provides a working knowledge of the Internet to assist teachers in implementing Internet resources in the K-12 curriculum. Part 1 - The Basics includes chapters 1-3. The first chapter deals with the information glut on the Internet and the time management problems this poses and presents a conceptual image of the Internet. Chapter 2 discusses general Internet directories and catalogs, and chapter 3 focuses on educational directories. Part 2 - The Details includes chapters 4-10. Chapter 4 describes e-mail functions, including Usenet and mailing lists. Chapter 5 addresses the World Wide Web; a number of Web sites designed by schools are explored, and basic instruction is given for the construction of a home page. Chapter 6 deals with using Gopher in the classroom, and the next chapter considers FTP (File Transfer Protocol). IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is discussed in chapter 8. Chapter 9 highlights educational telnet sites and chapter 10 considers acceptable use policies and Internet filters. Appendices A-F provide information on using the "Internet.edu" link at IRI/SkyLight, the structure of an e-mail address, downloading graphic files, CU-SeeMe (an audio-video conferencing technology), Archie (a tool used to search FTP sites) and subject area and grade level ratings and URLs for activities by chapter.
