Magic Bus and Other Stories
註釋The stories contained in this tome are fictionalized rememberances/retellings of actual events from author's Gary Cohen's past - each story is a roman à clef, if you will - exploring different aspects of the Human condition, engagingly told by a master storyteler with decades of published works. Over the course of his life, Gary has been a student, a roofer, a writer, a teacher a fencing instructor, and oh so much more. Two of the four tales presented here are drawn from his days as a roofer, while a third draws upon his college days. The fourth tale is from the perspective of an older, wiser, muchly-published author who gets caught up in a, well, rather unusual situation. To be sure, while one can imagine Gary as the protagonist in each of these tales, he assures us that quite often, fiction is far more entertaining than the truth. Each of the four stories involves authentic and compelling interactions between charming people who are simply wandering through the ordinariness of their everyday lives that somehow seem far more interesting than each of our own lives when conveyed to us by a writer of Gary's caliber.
