Le Marc-Antoine, ou, La Cleopatre
註釋Mariet's second tragedy contributes to the revival of the genre in the mid-1630s, and to the evolution of the Antony and Cleopatra tradition. Set in the context of Richelieu's efforts to rehabilitate the theatre, the play aims to satisfy demand for moral exemplarity, and to repeat the success of the author's historical tragedy, Sphonisbe.
