Fabricated World
註釋The meaning and mechanics of myth have been of constant concern inscholarship. Tales and legends challenge us to find a sense and purposeconcealed in their apparent nonsense and that challenge is met in thiscompanion volume to Kewa Tales. Describing eighty tales, theauthor explains how they are fabricated from recurrent narrativesequences, logical structures, and aesthetic metaphors. To do so, hedraws on the formalism of Propp, the structuralism of Levi-Strauss, andwritings on poetics and metaphor. But, holding tales to be mirrors ormodels for daily life, he also demonstrates an intimate connectionbetween narrative structure and ethnographic settings.
