Along That Country Road
註釋Born in 1921 in a two-up, two-down cottage in Gloucester, Mary is the cosseted only child of Fred, a carpenter and Edith, a retired head parlour maid. But Mary's idyllic childhood is shattered by tragedy, the effects of which remain with her all her life. In her teens, Mary discovers first love, but the storm clouds of war gathering over Europe force her down a different road. She becomes a Land Girl and meets Harold, a farmer's son. They marry and share their passion for each other and the land. The relentless toil of running a dairy unit in post war Britain on just 32 acres, forces Mary to draw on every last ounce of her strength.
