A National Assessment of Effects of School Experiences on Health Outcomes and Behaviours of Children
註釋Chapter 1 presents a critical review of the literature on adolescent health & its determinants, and the effect of school experiences on student health outcomes & behaviours. Chapters 2 & 3 review the objectives & methodology of a study to examine the effects of school experiences on a number of health outcomes & behaviours of youth, using an input-process-output model of school effects and Canadian data from the 1998 Cross-National Survey on Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children. Chapters 4 & 5 present & discuss results of this study with regard to school effects on substance use, injury, leisure activities, nutrition, dental hygiene, sense of self, interpersonal relationships, and health. Chapter 6 revisits the research literature and discusses the contribution of the study to the literature on adolescent health. Chapter 7 proposes a conceptual framework, based on the study results, aimed at building a school experiences model of health outcomes & behaviours. The final chapter makes recommendations for parents, schools, education policy, public health policy, and social services policy. Appendices include descriptions of the measures used in the study and tables of descriptive statistics on student- & school-level variables.
