La Inquisición en Cartagena de Indias durante el siglo XVII
註釋Describes the organization and activities of the Inquisition in Cartagena de Indias (now in Colombia), which functioned between 1610-88. Ch. 4 (p. 115-141), "Judaizantes", deals with the persecution of the Conversos. The Conversos were of Portuguese origin, most of them merchants, who entered the country illegally, and whose commercial activities were connected to Holland, at that time in conflict with Spain. The Conversos' success aroused fear in the Church and among the civil authorities, who began to investigate their lives, finding that most of them were Judaizers. 84 Conversos were tried by the Inquisition in Cartagena. They were jailed or executed, and their property was expropriated.
