註釋Arthur Gordon Slonaker was born in Dillons Run, Hampshire County, West Virginia. He served in the Army during World War II in the 103rd Anti-Aircraft Barrage Balloon Battery in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France. Following the war, he served for seven years as high school principal in Romney, West Virginia. He then served fifteen years as Academic Dean of Shepherd College (Now Shepherd University) in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He then served as Dean of the College at Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser.
