A three-pronged approach was adopted for the investigation of natural convection in trapezoidal cavities. This consists of carefully controlled heat transfer measurements, a two-dimensional numerical analysis and flow visualization experiments. The results from the three different studies were in reasonable agreement with one another. A correlation equation was developed for predicting the natural convection heat transfer rate in such cavities.
