註釋The Cobra artists discovered Klee's work at an exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1948. After the horrors of the war, they were searching for a new start. They found it in the innocence of children's drawings, entirely free as they are from social and academic codes. Karel Appel, Corneille, Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky and other members of Cobra recognised in Paul Klee's work the same spontaneity and imagination that formed the raison d'être of their movement. Klee en Cobra. 'Het begint als kind' confronts the oeuvre of the Cobra movement with that of its spiritual father Paul Klee. The book presents work from major collections for the first time in one volume. Organised around different themes such as play and evil, imaginary beings, masks and grotesque figures, it is a celebration of visual imagination and colourful expression.
