A mountain boy, David, living in the region now known as Switzerland, has heard of a Crusade being organizaed to save the Holy Land. David's father had brought home an Egyptian mastiff from an earlier crusade. David, with Regis, a descendant of his father's mastiff, sets off to join the other children. Before they cross the Great Pass, the children are without food or shelter. A man offers to buy Regis, forcing David to make a tragic choice.
