Raebareli to Novato
註釋Memoir of a person who comes from a family background of a village of thatched roofs and no roads. He gets his school education in a sleepy town of UP, India having no electricity, no water supply. In spite of financial stringency, he is able to move to a much larger neighboring city for college education. In the next 10 years he gets Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees in Physics. As a postdoctoral Research Associate, he spends four years doing research in US Universities including MIT, Cambridge, Mass. He then takes up a faculty position at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur which has been established in collaboration with seven US Universities including MIT. At IIT Kanpur several students get PhD degrees working in his research group. During this period, he presents research papers in International Conferences and spends several summers and a sabbatical year in the US working on collaborative research projects. In his very successful academic career at IIT Kanpur, he rises to the position of a Professor and Chairman of the Department. He retires at the age of 60 from IIT Kanpur and moves to the US. For the next 20 years he takes up research and teaching positions at the US Universities then finally retires and settles in Novato, California close to his son's house. A remarkable story which would surely be an inspiration to young people.
