Daniel Sullivan Henderson Papers
註釋Seventeen letters, 3 January 1879- 22 April 1880, relate to a foreclosure on property owned by the Thorpe family and the resulting law suit, William Thorpe versus J. G. Thorpe and J. R. Abney (12 S.C. 154 - 1879). Collection includes transcript and ruling from 30 July 1879, when this case went before the South Carolina Supreme Court (Case No. 753). Four letters, 22 January through 12 February 1886, discuss the case of Gregory versus Rhoden, 24 S.C. 90 (1886), which went before the South Carolina Supreme Court on 5 January 1886 and dealt with the disposal of property originally inherited in 1866 by the widowed mother of Richard Gregory, Jr., and the son's subsequent efforts to sell this property after her death. [One of the Thorpe men involved in this case is presumed to be a native of Derbyshire (England), Joseph G Thorpe (1823-1894), who appears in the U.S. Census of 1870 as a merchant living in Graniteville (now located in Aiken County, S.C.)]
