Ella Yates is brought to the world of Pleroma as a candidate for their new queen. She must undergo several lessons, each conducted by a different council member, to see if she is a good fit. Unfortunately for her, the feared Eros is set to be her teacher on diplomacy and they can't stand each other.

Ella soon learns why Eros is so hated, and unknowingly becomes involved in a larger plot that seeks to tear apart tradition and her new position as queen.
